Latest updates on ETIAS

ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is expected to be operational in 2024. The ETIAS system will apply to visa exempt non-EU nationals traveling to Schengen Member States, Bulgaria and Romania. Visa exempt non-EU nationals must complete an online application and obtain travel authorization before their flight. Overall, the ETIAS will enhance security measures and streamline the travel process for visa-exempt travelers.

COVID-19 restrictions as of today

As we continue to move into pre-pandemic travel and the rapid removal of COVID-19 restrictions for passengers arriving from China (including Hong Kong and Macao), Europe is the region with the highest number of countries without any travel restrictions, while Africa is the region with the highest number of countries which are still partially restrictive. These countries either require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result. A handful of countries still advise that traveling passengers could be subjected to quarantine or medical screening upon arrival.

Summer holidays are coming soon – What should your customers start thinking about?

a. Check for visa requirements: Check the visa requirements for the destination country and apply in advance if needed.
b. Keep documents up to date: Check the expiration date of passport or identity card and make sure it is valid for the duration of the trip. Some countries may require a passport to be valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date.
c. Follow COVID-19 protocols: Depending on the destination and country of origin, travelers may need to follow specific COVID-19 protocols, such as providing a negative test result or proof of vaccination.

Traveling to Qatar with a Hayya Entry Permit

Visitors with a Hayya Entry Permit (fans and organizers) for the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022 can enter Qatar without a visa until 10 January 2024. They need proof of confirmed accommodation, health insurance for their stay, a round-trip ticket, and a passport valid for at least 3 months. Hayya Card holders will have access to the "Hayya with Me" feature.

Umrah pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia

Umrah is a pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, performed by Muslims at any time of the year except during the Hajj season. It is also known as the “minor pilgrimage”. Typically, Umrah passengers must obtain an Umrah visa and arrive at one of the designated airports in Saudi Arabia. Recently, authorities in Saudi Arabia have announced that all Umrah passengers are to be allowed to enter any international airport in Saudi Arabia.
